California focusing on Zero Emission Vehicles! The Real Issue

By 2035 all the new vehicles sold in california will be Zero Emission Vehicles.

In California, transportation is responsible for about  50% of greenhouse gas emissions and 80% of air pollutants.

In the United States alone, Transportation Sector produces 1.9 billion tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) annually. This causes severe respiratory disorders and even deaths.

To bring down all the emissions to zero, California will ban sales of new gas-powered vehicles by 2035. By this, Overall health impacts worth around $13 billion will be avoided.

Starting from the year 2026 the automakers will need to deliver 35% of the ZEVs, 43% in 2027, 68 % in 2030, and 100% by 2035.

These new regulations will cause a 25% reduction in the pollution caused by light-duty vehicles by 2037, to meet federal quality standards.

Governor announced along with the approval of the legislation, $2.7 billion in the fiscal year 2022-23, and $3.9 billion over three years, for investment needed for Zero Emission Vehicles adoption.

The shift is not simple, that's why there will be certain regulations by governments which each automakers must have to follow.

If an automaker is delivering plug-in electric vehicles then it should have at least 50 miles of range, and automakers are allowed to have no more than 20% ZEVs requirements as PHEVs.

The electric vehicles should meet certain requirements such as they should have specified range, should come with warranty on the parts, also should be equipped with the fast charging capability etc.
